“Emmerdale Star Receives Outpouring of Support After Opening Up About ‘Loss’ and ‘Letting Go’”

Posted on December 19, 2025

“An Emmerdale favourite posted a reflective end-of-year message to fans on social media.”

A former Emmerdale star received an outpouring of support from fans after reflecting on “loss” and “letting go” in an end-of-year message.

Roxy Shahidi, who portrayed Leyla Harding on the ITV soap for 17 years, saw her character killed off earlier this year in the tragic limo crash storyline.

The 42-year-old was feeling reflective on Thursday as she shared a heartfelt post about life since leaving Emmerdale and the role she had played since 2008.

Accompanying a series of photos from her time on the soap and her life afterwards, Roxy wrote: “This year changed me. Loss, letting go, growth, and unexpected beginnings. Thank you to everyone who’s walked this path with me, especially all the beautiful people who took a chance and joined me at YogaRox.uk. Here’s to continuing forward, together.”

On the photos, Roxy also shared reflective words, saying: “This time last year, I was coming to terms with having to leave this lot behind—not just as colleagues, but as friends and family.”

“Playing Leyla wasn’t just a job; she was a huge part of who I am, and some days I spent more time living as her than being myself.

“Losing that sense of identity was difficult, but long walks with Mr Cooper gave me space to breathe, reflect, and stay hopeful. Yoga once again became my anchor on the toughest days—moving my body helped me work through grief, loss, and uncertainty. Now, YogaRox has grown into a new home, a new family, and a renewed sense of self.”

After sharing a screenshot of her glowing yoga reviews, Roxy added: “I don’t know exactly how I’ll get there, but I know the direction I’m heading. Thank you to everyone who has supported me through a year of challenge, growth, and transformation; here’s to 2026.”

In response, Roxy’s 122K followers flooded the comments with messages of support and encouragement.

One fan wrote: “We miss you on screen. But as one door closes…….. ❤️❤️.” Another added: “I absolutely adore this post and I’m so, so proud of you.” A different follower commented: “You’re still greatly missed by us Emmerdale fans, but you’re smashing it with your new projects—you’re amazing!! xx.”

Elsewhere, another fan said: “Loved Leyla—you gave her depth and her character was fantastic! I really miss her on Emmerdale, but I love following your journey; it feels so real. Thank you for sharing.”

Another viewer added: “I miss my favourite Emmerdale actress. I’d love to see you on stage if the opportunity ever comes. I still haven’t watched your final week of episodes because I know I’ll cry.”
