Fans believe tragic Corriedale scenes have “sealed” the death of a Corrie legend and are now predicting what will happen next.

Posted on January 5, 2026

Corriedale viewers have been swapping theories about which character could be killed off in the landmark crossover episode, as favourites from both soaps collide in a “catastrophic” car crash.

Fans believe they’ve worked out who could be killed off in the upcoming Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover. In tonight’s episode, characters from both ITV soaps will collide in a terrifying car crash. While it remains unclear who is injured, several major figures are involved. Emmerdale favourites Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell), Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) are caught up in the chaos, alongside Weatherfield legends David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney), Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), Carla Connor (Alison King) and Ken Barlow (William Roache). Soap bosses have teased that the crash will result in “catastrophic” and “life-changing” injuries.

Perhaps most intriguingly, viewers will have the power to vote on which characters come face to face in the historic episode. Last year, fans were invited to submit their dream pairings, which were later narrowed down to four options. Each pairing was written and filmed, with the winning combination still to be revealed. Corriedale boss Iain MacLeod told Digital Spy that the vote will close just 15 minutes before the episode airs at 8pm on January 5. He added: “I’ll be in the transmission suite on the night saying, ‘Play that one!’ and hoping it’s the right choice. I’m already feeling a bit sweaty about it, to be honest.”
Meanwhile, fans are throwing themselves into the special, sharing theories online, with one enthusiastic Reddit user predicting the death of a much-loved character and citing clues to support their claim.

They wrote: “I’m almost certain Billy will die in Corriedale, and here’s why. It’s already widely known that Billy’s exit is approaching, although it hasn’t been confirmed whether it will happen during Corriedale. Daniel Brocklebank shared on Instagram that November 17 was his final day filming with Harriet Bibby. As we know, Corrie is filmed around six to eight weeks in advance, and six weeks after November 17 falls on January 5 — the date of Corriedale. I might be reaching a bit, but that’s my theory.”
Last year, Brocklebank revealed he would be leaving the soap after 11 years playing Billy. While his exit storyline has been kept firmly under wraps, it has been confirmed that his final scenes have already been filmed.

In 2024, Billy’s on-screen husband Paul Foreman, played by Peter Ash, died in devastating scenes following a battle with motor neurone disease (MND). Recent episodes have shown Billy struggling to cope with the loss of his partner. Speaking to the ECHO, Brocklebank reflected on his time on the soap, saying: “I’ve built up 11 years of memories. That’s a long time to be in one place. I’ve been acting for 32 years, and 11 of those were spent there, so it really does become like a family.
“I’ve had so many fantastic storylines over the years. Billy was never short of drama — there were fun moments, tragic moments and even some silly ones. I mean, he definitely shouldn’t have touched that heroin.”
He added: “I’ve loved my time on Corrie, and I’ll always look back on it with nothing but complete love in my heart.”
