Natalie Cassidy opens up about the ‘amazing’ transformation since departing EastEnders

Posted on December 25, 2025

Natalie Cassidy, known for playing Sonia Fowler for 32 years on EastEnders, has revealed the ‘lovely changes’ in her life since departing the soap this year.

Natalie Cassidy has spoken about the ‘lovely change’ in her life since leaving EastEnders.

The 42-year-old actress, who first joined the BBC One soap in 1993, said goodbye to Walford earlier this year after spending three decades playing Sonia Fowler on Albert Square.

Off-screen, Natalie enjoys a quiet life in Hertfordshire with her partner Marc Humphreys, an EastEnders cameraman, and their daughter Joanie. She is also mum to teenager Eliza from a previous relationship with Adam Cottrell.

Speaking exclusively to Sky Bingo about her festive plans and how Christmas feels without the pressures of EastEnders filming, Natalie shared: “It’s been really lovely. Being able to say yes to school concerts and assemblies and put them in my diary has been amazing,” reports OK!.

“On Christmas Day I’ll be at home – there’ll be 10 of us. Boxing Day will be quieter, and more family will arrive in the following days. Christmas just keeps going for me, and I love being the host,” Natalie explained.

Talking about her favourite Christmas TV shows, particularly those full of ‘Hun moments’, she added: “For me, it has to be The Vicar of Dibley Christmas dinners. I’ve already watched that episode twice this year. Dawn French as Geraldine is an incredible Hun. Looking back now, she’s absolutely one of the biggest Huns of the 1990s – fun, warm, hilarious, and someone who wants to be everyone’s mate.”

As viewers gear up for some festive television this year, new research from Sky Bingo has highlighted the Christmas TV moments and seasonal icons that Britons love most.

A survey of 2,000 UK adults revealed that Alison Hammond claimed the top spot, receiving nearly a quarter of all votes (23%). Following her was the beloved late EastEnders icon Dame Barbara Windsor, who garnered 17%.

Natalie commented: “I think the British public choosing Alison Hammond as the ‘ultimate TV Hun’ is absolutely spot on. No one can beat her.”

She added: “The key to a Hun is that, even though they’re famous, you feel like they could easily be your best friend. If they knocked on your door, you’d happily have a cocktail with them.”

Natalie concluded: “This year, I’m really looking forward to watching Christmas Day as a viewer!”
