Villain set to leave Coronation Street following brutal storyline twist

Posted on December 30, 2025

Coronation Street viewers were stunned as the kidnapping storyline took an unexpected turn on Monday night

Coronation Street fans were left reeling by an “unexpected twist” in Monday night’s dramatic episode, as Carla Connor’s kidnapping storyline took centre stage. The Underworld boss, played by Alison King, was left terrified after becoming trapped inside Becky Swain’s (Amy Cudden) wardrobe when the corrupt police officer made a jaw-dropping return from the dead. Becky resorted to extreme measures in a bid to win back her wife, Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).

Just over a year ago on the ITV soap, Carla struck up a romance with DS Lisa Swain, a pairing that quickly won over viewers and earned the couple the affectionate social media nickname “Swarla”. However, their happiness was thrown into chaos when Becky — believed to have died in the line of duty in 2021 — suddenly reappeared at Number Six. It later emerged she had been living in a Spanish villa all along as part of an elaborate cover-up.

However, when Carla confronted Becky, pointing out that her only chance with Lisa relied on keeping her captive, Becky snapped, shouting, “You ruined my life!” and threw a plate at her. Adding another twist, Lisa’s boss, DI Costello (Daon Broni), is somehow entangled in the cover-up, though he was recently hospitalised following an attack by Becky. Before being abducted, Carla had visited him in an attempt to gather information, but all she managed to extract were the words “rhubarb” and “hill,” according to the Mirror. Just before Christmas, under the threat of a knife, Becky let Carla phone her stepdaughter, Betsy; Carla, desperate to protect her, pretended everything was fine and said she was staying at the Rhubarb Hill Hotel. Meanwhile, back on the cobbles, Carla’s Underworld colleague Sarah (Tina O’Brien) grew increasingly concerned about an order. When Sarah and DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) ran into Betsy in the pub, the teenager casually mentioned the fake hotel, immediately setting off alarm bells, as Kit remembered Carla’s earlier encounter with Costello.

To their surprise, a quick Google search revealed a website and phone number for the so-called hotel.

Fuming, Becky stormed back to her flat, and during a cryptic phone call, it became clear she had masterminded the whole plan herself. She said: “Looks like he took the bait. No, don’t take the website down yet. Keep an eye on that phone line too. Everyone needs to believe the hotel is real!”

After ending the call, she muttered about the cost of setting up the website. But just as she swung open the wardrobe door, Carla leapt at her, knocking her out and finally freeing herself using pieces of the broken plate. Will Becky now make a run for it from Weatherfield?

Fans applauded Carla’s quick thinking in breaking free, though many are bracing for another twist as the soap heads toward its upcoming crossover with Emmerdale.

One viewer wrote on X: “Carla knocking Becky out at the end. Yass, hunny, yas!” while another joked: “Carla Connor WWE legend.”

A third added: “This is such an unexpected twist, but I don’t think she’ll get away! Or maybe she can escape and Kit saves her,” and a fourth commented: “Carla’s not going to run, is she? She’ll check on Becky first because she’s a good person, and then Becky will overpower her again.” Another fan chimed in: “Well, that was thoroughly satisfying! Carla nearly launching Becky into next week!!”

However, some viewers were convinced that, even without knowing all the details, this could signal Becky’s downfall in some form.

One fan posted: “That Becky loser is definitely going to put herself first and run,” while another wrote: “If that little push and Becky falling felt that satisfying, just imagine what her full downfall will feel like.”

Soap fans will remember that this isn’t the first time businesswoman Carla has faced such a dangerous situation.

Back in 2010, Carla’s late husband, Tony Gordon, returned to Underworld after a prison sentence and, driven by revenge, trapped Carla and beloved Weatherfield icon Hayley Cropper in the factory before setting it on fire.

Both women narrowly escaped the blaze, but earlier this year, Carla again found herself a captive—this time at the hands of her brother, Rob Donovan, who had broken out of prison after nearly a decade behind bars for murdering Tina McIntyre.
